Paper And The Environment - The Facts:

Many people still believe that paper-making is responsible for the destruction of the rainforests.

This is simply not true. Rainforest wood is unsuitable for paper manufacture,

even if the industry was inclined to use it as a raw material. The wood used in

paper-making is grown as a crop in fully managed and sustainable forests.

Whereas wheat and barley would be harvested annually, the trees for paper are

harvested around every twenty years. In the interim new sapplings are planted

at the rate of 3 - 1 for harvested trees. New sapplings consume more carbon

dioxide than mature trees thus contributing to environmental welfare.

Sustainable forestry is both a commercial necesity for the industry, as well as

an environmentally friendly operation.

So who is responsible for the destruction of the Rainforests:

Whilst the following is by no means an exhaustive list of contributing factors, they

account for a large part of the problem.

Agriculture - Cash Crops and Cattle Ranching

Undisturbed and logged rainforest areas are being totally cleared to provide

land for food crops, tree plantations or for grazing cattle (Colchester &

Lohmann).

The United Nation's Food and Agriculture Organisation estimates that '1.5

billion of the 2 billion people worldwide who rely on fuelwood for cooking and

heating are overcutting forests'

Shifted cultivators' is the term used for people who have moved into

rainforest areas and established small-scale farming operations. These are the

landless peasants who have followed roads into already damaged rainforest

areas. The additional damage they are causing is extensive. Shifted cultivators

are currently being blamed for 60% of tropical forest loss (Colchester &

Lohmann).

Mining and industrial development leads to direct forest loss due to the

clearing of land to establish projects. Indigenous people are displaced. Roads

are constructed through previously inaccessible land, opening up the

rainforest. Severe water, air and land pollution occurs from mining and

industry.

Large Dams

In India and South America, hundreds of thousands of hectares of forests have

been destroyed by the building of hydro-electric dams.

Rainforest destruction is a massive concern for all of us but in using

paper based products you are not contributing to the problem.

Kraft Paper Bags

Kraft Carrier Bags from Print and Packaging!Kraft Paper Bags are environmentally friendly, made with paper from fully sustainable FSC certified sources. Kraft paper is 100% Recyclable and compostable.

Available with twisted paper handles mainly used in the retail market. Flat tape handles, generally for fast food applications, counter bag style for greetings cards, sandwich outlets etc.

There is a choice of brown or white plain kraft paper and well a ribbed kraft paper options.

The minimum quantity is 1000 bags for Twisted paper handle bags and 3000 bags for flat tape handle bags.

Counter bags have a minimum order quantity of 5000.

Overprinted Kraft Bags

Overprinted Kraft Paper Carrier Bags from Print and Packaging! Overprinting refers to the process of printing one colour on top of another. Various stock sizes of carrier bags are available in white and brown ribbed glazed kraft paper.

We can also offer Black, Green, Red, Blue and Cream coloured carrier bags subject to availability.

The printing process employed for single colour printing is flexographic printing. The bags are hand fed through a printing unit and as such 1 colour can only be offered with this method.

For carrier bag printing in upto 3 colours, silk screen overprinting is also available.

Production runs are from 250 to 2000 bags.

Digitally Printed Kraft Bags

We are now able to digitally print Twisted Handle and Luxury Rope Handle Kraft Paper Bags.

This is something that has never before been possible to achieve. But thanks to new technology we can now print from as little as 25 bags in 4 colour process with photo quality printing.

Laminated Rope Handle Bags

Luxury rope handle laminated paper carrier bags from Print and Packaging!

These are high quality luxury laminated rope handle bags. Made out of silk or gloss coated board and then either gloss or matt laminated. The finished bag projects a luxury image and a durable finish. Litho printed and hand made.

You can have exactly want you want printed on any face of the bag, including the inside of the bag and base card. This style of bag projects a very high quality image. They are strong, eco friendly, and can be made out of recycled paper if required, you can also have bio-degradable lamination if required to make them environmentally friendly.

Unlaminated Rope Handle Bags

Luxury rope handle unlaminated paper carrier bags from Print and Packaging!

These bags have all of the quality features of a Luxury laminated rope handle bag. The difference being they are made out of uncoated paper which means they are 100% recyclable. This makes them ideal for projecting a luxury image with the environment in mind.

Printed and made in exactly the same way as Luxury laminated paper bags. Litho printed and hand made.

You can have exactly want you want printed on any face of the bag, including the inside of the bag and base card. This style of bag produces a very understated elegance, as well as being "in vogue" at present. They are strong, very eco friendly, and can be made out of recycled paper if required.

These are available in gloss or matt laminated finishes as well as uncoated kraft paper. They can be screen overprinted with your design. Whilst this process is less exacting than litho printing, it still provides the option of a quality carrier bag at an attractive price for short production runs from 100 to 500 bags.
